I joined the lab after taking a class from Dr. Merkley. Nothing had ever excited me more than learning about the linkages between the brain and behavior. I was captivated by the puzzling nature of neuroanatomy structures and their links to each other. After realizing this fascination, I delved headfirst into coursework and joined Dr Merkley’s BRaIN Lab.

I am a senior majoring in psychology with plans to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology with a focus on neurodevelopment. I chose psychology because I feel that studying the human condition makes me a more compassionate, understanding, and Christlike person. Some day, I hope to make meaningful, lasting impacts in the lives of individual people, either through research or direct patient care.

I'm especially interested in traumatic brain injuries, food reward systems, and experimental treatments for depression. When I’m not studying or taking care of my 125-gallon fish tank, I love playing the piano and spending time in nature, especially near the ocean. As a certified scuba diver and an amateur free diver, I feel a deep, almost spiritual connection when exploring the ocean’s alien-like world.

I married my amazing wife, Kay, in June 2024. We love going out to eat, hiking, and catching up on old TV shows. More than anything, I enjoy learning about the connection between neuroanatomy and human behavior.
