Cooper MacArthur

Research Assistant

I am from Orem, Utah, and I am a senior Neuroscience major with a minor in Spanish. I served a Spanish speaking mission, so I love the Spanish language and culture!

My future goal is to attend medical school in the Fall of 2026, and it was by learning about brain cancer that got me interested in both medicine and neuroscience! I joined the Merkley lab to gain experience in applying the things I have learned in class to the real world! I had no previous experience in using the scientific method to answer my own questions other than in my lab classes, so being able to join this lab has really opened my eyes to how great and important advancements in research is to society.

Outside of the lab, I work at the Utah State Hospital in the Physical Therapy clinic. My true passion in life is baseball, and I am currently on my third season as head coach of a youth recreation team in Orem. I also am big into playing video games and watching anime.
